Me and my family’s one-day trip to New Buffalo, Michigan
On August 3, 2025, my parents planned a day trip to explore New Buffalo, Michigan. They chose this beach and city because it has a beautiful shoreline with small accessible beach. The drive felt exciting, with the warm summer air and endless road stretching ahead. We stopped for lunch at Taco John’s. After crossing past Indiana, we noticed the time jump forward by an hour.
Our first stop was the coast of the vast and shimmering Lake Michigan. The blue water stretched so far that it looked like the ocean. My sister, Disha wasted no time playing in the sand, while I sat in a beach chair watching her. The waves rolled in gently, creating a calm rhythm. Then, the sand beneath my feet suddenly felt softer, almost like it was pulling me in. Before I realized, I took a bath in Lake Michigan. Surprisingly, I wasn’t scared. Sharp wooden structures stuck out of the shore nearby, but thankfully I didn’t get hurt.
I asked my parents to put my legs in the water. The waves rolled around my feet, making me smile. I started collecting rocks, each one different—some smooth, some bumpy, and some with multiple layers. Their colors ranged from black to rusty brown.
After drying off, we visited the New Buffalo Railroad Museum. Even though it was small, it was full of history. Miniature trains rode along the tracks. Real signs from the 1920s hung on the walls, showing when trains were supposed to stop and go. Then, we drove to Galien River County Park, where we walked a short trail and saw the river.
By evening, we were ready for dinner, so we went to Taste of India in Merrilville, Indiana. Once we finished, we drove home in the dark. As soon as we arrived, we were so tired that my dad helped me freshen up and we went straight to bed, falling asleep immediately after an adventurous day.
